New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) Continuing their long-running fight for 'one rank, one pension', ex-soldiers have met President Pratibha Patil, the supreme commander of the armed forces, and reiterated their demand for pension parity.
A seven-member delegation of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) submitted a memorandum in this regard to Patil late Monday evening.
"The president patiently listened to the delegation's briefing on the demand and reasons behind it. We presented the memorandum requesting her intervention in the matter," Maj Gen (Retd) Satbir Singh, who is vice chairman of IESM, told IANS Tuesday.
Several soldiers earlier returned their gallantry and distinguished services medals to the president to register their protest against the government's continued apathy to their demand.
IESM is demanding that irrespective of the date on which a soldier retires, he should get equal pension at each rank for the same length of service with the amount rising every time there is a wage revision.
The ex-servicemen are upset at the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, which did not address the 'one rank, one pension' issue.
The government continues to reject the demand on administrative and financial grounds.

नई दिल्ली, 10 मार्च (IANS) उनकी लंबी लड़ाई 'के लिए एक पेंशन', पूर्व सैनिकों के राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल, सशस्त्र बलों के सर्वोच्च कमांडर मिले हैं और पेंशन समता के लिए उनकी मांग दोहराई एक पद, दौड़ जारी है.
एक सात भारतीय पूर्व की सदस्यीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल-कर्मियों आंदोलन (IESM) पाटिल को इस संबंध में सोमवार देर शाम को एक ज्ञापन दिया.
"राष्ट्रपति धैर्य की मांग है और इसके पीछे कारणों पर प्रतिनिधिमंडल की जानकारी देने की बात सुनी. हम ज्ञापन इस मामले में उसके हस्तक्षेप का अनुरोध प्रस्तुत किया," मेजर जनरल (सेवानिवृत्त) Satbir सिंह, जो IESM के उपाध्यक्ष के अध्यक्ष है, मंगलवार IANS कहा था.
कई सैनिकों पहले उनकी मांग को सरकार की उदासीनता के खिलाफ अपना विरोध जारी रखा रजिस्टर करने के लिए उनकी वीरता और विशिष्ट सेवाओं के लिए राष्ट्रपति पदक लौटा.
IESM कि जिस पर एक सैनिक सेवानिवृत्त की तिथि भले की, वह राशि हर बार वहाँ एक वेतन संशोधन के साथ बढ़ती है सेवा की इसी अवधि के लिए प्रत्येक पद पर समान पेंशन मिलना चाहिए की मांग कर रहा है.
पूर्व सैनिकों ने छठे वेतन आयोग, जो 'एक पद, एक पेंशन' मुद्दे को पता नहीं था की सिफारिशों पर परेशान कर रहे हैं.
सरकार ने प्रशासनिक और वित्तीय आधार पर इस माँग को अस्वीकार करने के लिए जारी है.
