Dear Colleagues,
The rally went off well. It has already been aptly described by Sharan Ahuja, and disseminted by Chander Kamboj. The attendance could be around 10,000 including large number of families and some 150 General Officer veterans. The attendees had come from many States. The media, both print and visual, covered the event extensively.
There were a few speeches, where Rakesh Chaturvedi as the emcee had a tough time controlling the hordes of ESM all intending to speak for ‘just two minutes’ lasting nearly ten. This was followed by the foot procession along the pre-determined route, led by posse comitatus.
Thereafter, a large number of us surrendered our medals. These were collected, inventoried and carried to the Rashtrapati Bhawan by a team of 11 members. There the Deputy Secretary Mr Rana and his team received these as per schedule.
The following two decisions were announced at the rally:
  • The relay fast at Jantar Mantar is to continue up to the end of the Parliamentary session.
  • If the current government sanctions the OROP, we will fully support it during the elections. The converse was implied, though not explicitly stated.
Local ESM from Gurgaon are in charge of the Jantar Mantar venue.

    Best regards,
    Lt Gen (Emeritus) Raj Kadyan
    Chairman IESM

    Dear Raj,
My congratulations for the special event conducted by the IESM today. By all accounts, it was a great success. You, Satbir and the core group need to be congratulated for all the efforts put in to make it a successful venture. The enthusiasm and the support from outside Delhi was tremendous; they too need to be congratulated for making the special effort to come and participate.

We cannot hazard a guesss on its outcome, at this stage, but with the media covering it extensively, it is likely to at least make the political leadership at least do a rethink.

    Warm regards.
    Vijay Oberoi
(Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi Former VCOAS)

    Dear All,
The rally today 08 Feb 2009 at Jantar Mantar was a big success and just now the 30 min programme on Channel NCR of Sahara TV anchored by Maj Gen Satbir Singh and Mrs P Bhagat wife of Late Maj Bhagat was as educative for the nation on OROP as it could be.

    2. We at IESM thank all those who contributed to the cause of IESM and making it a big success. One of the advertisments in the News Week dated 07 Feb 2009 and arranging the buses by the enthusiasts Col US Gujral and Maj JS Kohli and Asian Travels from Vasant Kunj is praise worthy.

    Regards
    Cdr Sharan Ahuja (Retd)
    Member core group IESM
